Underwater photography is a hobby within a hobby and, for many, a pure passion.

The underwater photography courses are taught by our partner Georg Nies. He is a professional in the field of underwater photography, a distributor of Seacam underwater photo equipment in Germany, and a multi-award-winning underwater photographer. The Digital Underwater Photographer specialty course is the ideal introduction to the incredible world of underwater photography. Whether schools of sharks or microscopic creatures with a macro lens, the underwater world offers a wealth of subjects. Handling the photo equipment (camera, housing, lighting, flash) requires practice, familiarity with the refraction of light and the magnification of the subject through the water, and careful perspective selection.

To participate in the course, you will need your own underwater camera equipment. You are welcome to bring your own laptop for image analysis.

Course content:

You will learn the basics of underwater photography during a theory lesson and two training dives with an underwater camera.

Course duration: 1 session of 8 hours

1 theory lesson

2 dives in the indoor dive center

Theoretical training:

Refraction of light, magnification through water, perspective, ISO, and aperture are just a few of the concepts we cover in a theory lesson. Detailed briefings before and after dives will help you apply and consolidate what you've learned.

Practical training: (2 dives)

Armed with an underwater camera, you'll conduct two training dives at the indoor dive center. This offers perfect conditions for honing the art of photography.

Including:

• Complete quality rental equipment (including ABC equipment)
• Entrance to the indoor diving center

Exclusive camera:

• To participate you need your own camera such as a digital camera with UW housing or a mobile phone with underwater housing
• ideally a flash
• Action cams are not suitable

To gain more diving experience or take your skills to a higher level, you can join the D4L Club or take additional specialty courses.
